“Intrapreneurship has successfully been utilized by corporations, partnerships and non-profit firms in the US, Europe, Asia and Africa.” *Quote from Dr. Howard Haller’s book, “Intrapreneurship Success.”

The underlying concept and idea of intrapreneurship, or corporate entrepreneurship, had been present in corporations in the United States, and around the world, for many decades, even before the term was used in the mid 1980’s in the mainstream media.

This is an introduction to the Intrapreneurial creation of the Corona Data Systems, Inc. -OEM Private Label Division. This intrapreneurial Division was created specifically to market internationally the completely “Private Label” IBM PC Compatible Desktop and Portable PC’s to major international main frame Computer manufacturers, especially in Europe and the United States. The major international main frame Computer manufacturers to signed OEM contacts for 10,000 units to as much as 43,000 of the Corona Data Systems Private Label IBM Compatible PC’s included international computer giants such as Olivetti (Italy), Phillips NV( Holland), Esselte (Sweden), Micom (Canada), and Sperry Univac (for both the US and Canada).

In 1977, Howard Edward Haller was the Co-founder, with Paul Renner, of the intrapreneurial new venture at PR1ME Computer to create and build PR1ME Leasing Division to finance the sales of the PR1ME Computer “super mini computers.” This intrapreneurship venture was one of several successful Intrapreneurship businesses that Haller would create and build over the next two decades (including Anaconda-Ericsson Finance & Leasing, and Corona Data Systems OEM Private Label PC Division). Haller documented the innovative creation of the intrapreneurial success of PR1ME Leasing operation and the operational and financial details from 1977 to 1981 using both qualitative and quantitative analysis for his University Master’s Degree in Management Thesis.

Back in June 1982, Howard Edw. Haller (now a Ph.D.) wrote and successfully defended his University Master’s Degree in Management thesis on the use of intrapreneurship techniques in the creation of a captive leasing division by PR1ME Computer Inc. from 1977 to 1980. In his four year case study research contained in his University Master’s Thesis, Haller provides the inside detailed qualitative analysis of the “Marketing and Financial Impact of Creating a captive Intrapreneurial Leasing Division in a rapidly growing Public Company.” Haller Master’s Thesis was published by the University in the summer of 1982. Dr. Haller was the Co-Founder of the Intrapreneurial venture of PR1ME Leasing within PR1ME Computer Inc. and shares the inside view and success of intrapreneurship at PR1ME which helped it grow form a small OTC listed firm 1977 to the #1 performing stock on the NYSE in only four years.

Dr. Haller’s Master’s Thesis which was the 1977-1981 case study of PR1ME (now a published book – “Intrapreneurship Success: A PR1ME Example”) documents the creation of PR1ME Leasing Division, within the rapidly growing public corporation that was able to grow rapidly with strong profits and invited to become listed on the New York Stock Exchange in just a few years after starting it’s very successful Intrapreneurship adventure.
